Marinus - 2009
Our 2009 Marinus marks a transition for our celebrated Carmel Valley Estate vineyard. Our winemaker and vineyard manager have collaborated to select the best blocks and replant several others in order to enhance the best attributes of this special vineyard. In 2009 we are beginning to see the fruits of their labors!

To produce our Marinus wines, we follow traditional Bordeaux vinification methods. Each block of Marinus is farmed separately and picked at its perfect moment of ripeness. All grapes are de-stemmed and hand sorted before being fermented in small individual fermenters. Each one is punched down or pumped over one or two times daily through out the lengthy fermentation period. The free-run is then drained and combined with the light press wine. The heavy press wines are kept separate for later evaluation. The wines are transferred to small French oak barrels for malo-lactic fermentation and ageing for 18 months, when the final blends are created.

Our 2009 Marinus exhibits its typical deeply colored robe, promising a well structured wine. The aromas express beautiful ripe, red fruits accented by notes of spice and cedar. The delicious flavors are soft and full, with spicy dark red fruit flavors and a smooth texture of well integrated tannins. Although drinking beautifully now, this Marinus will age gracefully for many years to come…
