Bottled in April
of 1999, it now has a full 13 years of bottle age. That
traditional bottle age softens the youthful, dark flavors and
begins to give focus to the direction those flavors will go.
While building in the mouth an incredible complexity and marriage
of the dark fruit, notes of some cedar, hints of menthol, it
carries a lingering pleasant and balanced finish. The
enjoyment of such a wine lays in the subtleties of the layers
leather, earth and fruit unfold in the glass before you.
While it will require decanting prior to serving, it may be
beginning to form a bit of a crust in the bottle. Enjoyable
now, this wine will continue to soften with additional age – easily
for the next 10 to 25 years. The 1996 harvest was slightly
early, and the winelots used in blending this

were picked mid-
to late August. 42% Tinta Maderia, 40% Touriga, 16% Souzao,
and 2% Tinta Cao.
