Hand-crafted by winemaker Peter Ficklin, the Aged 10 Years Tawny
Port was made from two of the traditional Portuguese grape
varietals grown on the Ficklin family’s estate vineyards in Madera,
California: Tinta Madeira and Touriga. Ficklin has established a
160-barrel Solera system to produce this special Port, which is
distinguished from other port products by the length and style of
its aging process. Ten years in American oak barrels allowed the
wine and wood to blend, developing the wine’s smoothness, fruit
flavors and long finish.
William Rice, The Chicago Tribune:
"Wine of the Week, Ficklin Vineyards Tawny Port. Ficklin
Vineyards Tawny is gentle and sweet and represents a great
tradition... Wood aging has given the wine depth and complexity, a
soft golden hue and a sugary fruit taste that masks its tannin and
alcohol. It shows to good advantage when served with blue cheese or
fruitcake."
