Home production of honey wine from your first batch to award winning fruit and herb variations. Quote from the book...."It goes by the name of 'mead' or simply 'honey wine''. Some call it 'ambrosia', others 'nectar of the gods'. By whatever name, no beverage serves as the focus for more myth and folklore than this romantic and resplendent elixir."

Chock full of good ideas
From Craig A. of Des Moines, Iowa on .
Read through it the same day I got it. What a great book. I have so many new techniques I want to try, that I think I'm just going to have to start doing one gal batches so I can do them all at once.
Thanks for the recommendation - great book!!
An outstanding read

An outstanding book, whether you're brand new or if you've been making mead for years. I'd been doing traditional mead for about 10 years. My first batch after reading the chapter on yeast development got raves from my friends - best batch I've ever had. I highly recommend this book.
It even worked for me

I'm impressed. I've been brewing mead for almost 15 years, and after reading this book, I felt like an amateur. There are so many things I haven't taken into account, mostly because I just never thought of them. My first batch after reading the book is just about ready to drink - and I have to say that the preliminary tastings show a marked improvement over my previous efforts... and my mead was always pretty well received before. I can only imagine how much better my future meads will turn out to be. This book is a MUST READ for any serious mead maker.
So far so good

Well, except for the fact that he thinks William the Conqueror was an Earl instead of a Duke, and one or two other minor historical mistakes, the author put out a great product. I've been making mead for over 5 years now, and I still learned some new tricks. The science side of the book is very detailed, but still written in plain language, so it was easy to understand. Highly recommended!!!
Decent book

Not bad. I was expecting another diatribe about "honey wine" and the resulting crappy recipes. I haven't tried the recipes yet (just got the book last week), but I've read it cover to cover and the guy really does know the difference between mead and wine. Some great tips, and some good techniques. I'm hoping to try some out this week.
