MUSCAT
55% Morio Muskat, 25% Muscat
Canelli,
10% Orange Muscat, 10% Muscadelle de Bordelaise
Tasting Notes
The winter of 2010/2011 saw two back to back freezes
that decimated nearly all sources of Muscat Canelli grapes in this
state. This meant that for the first time since our starting
production of Muscat in 1986, we were looking at not having this
wonderfully fruity wine in our line-up. Fortunately though
our 30 years of making wine here in Washington State allowed us to
form relationships that gave us the opportunity to borrow a few
grapes from here, and beg for a few from there. The result is
a wonderful blend of four Muscat family varieties: 55% Morio
Muskat, 25% Muscat Canelli, 10% Orange Muscat, and 10% Muscadelle
de Bordelaise. Even though the Orange Muscat is only a small
percentage of the blend, the aromas of citrus immediately engulf
all senses. Gentle sweetness and the delightful fragrance of
ripe grapes, fresh flowers, and honey also fill the mouth.
This wine is finished differently than most Muscats in that it is
not syrupy-sweet -- it is finished with just under 4% residual
sweetness and a relatively high acid which makes one of the most
food-versatile wines available.
Awards and Accolades
'04 Vintage - 88 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Magazine
"Lots of spritz and a forward, peachy, fruit-driven set
of flavors; almost like a Prosecco but with a bit more
concentration and powerful, peachy fruit. Just under four
percent residual sugar, yet it retains enough acid to give is some
verve, and clocks in at just 10.5%
alcohol."
'08 Vintage -
Outstanding, Wine Press Northwest Magazine
"A case can be made that no other Northwest winery has
done so well with this grape for so long as Mike Conway's family
operation. Fruit from Phil Church Vineyards on the Wahluke Slope
produced aromas of pink grapefruit, gooseberry, lychee, rosewater,
apricot, pear and freshly laundered linen. It's a fun, clean and
refreshing drink of more Ruby Red grapefruit, peaches, pears and
jasmine with lively acidity to balance the residual sugar (4%).
Enjoy this with Sunday brunch."

Magazine March 2010
'08 Vintage - 88 Points, Wine Enthusiast Magazine
"Floral
and off-dry, this elegant wine is finished at just 10.5% alcohol
and 4% residual sugar. It's perfectly balanced and harmonious
expression of the pretty orange blossom scents of the grape, but
shows unexpected fruit concentration and length in the mouth.
Match it to moderately spicy Thai or Szechwan
dishes."
