MAYWINE
Washington State, Columbia
Valley AVA
Tasting
Notes
This year's Maywine is our best ever. It is made, this year,
from 100% Chenin Blanc grapes blended with fragrant woodruff herbs
and natural strawberry concentrate. This wonderfully fruity
wine was developed from a family recipe brought to this country
years ago by a Hungarian winemaker who years later passed it on to
Mike. The resultant wine, with the addition of the strawberry
concentrate, is somewhat sweeter than the traditional German
Maiwine. The tangy, sweet white wine is complimented
perfectly by the fragrant strawberries.
Maywine has been described as "Springtime" in a bottle. It
has traditionally been used as a wine for festive occasions and
signifies the coming of spring, often served from a large bowl.
Awards and Accolades
'10 Vintage - Outstanding!, Wine Press
Northwest Magazine
"This traditional German-style wine has a significant
following around Spokane, Wash., thanks to Mike Conway. The
long-time Washington winemaker takes Chenin Blanc then adds
woodruff and strawberry concentrate to create a fun drink that
pairs marvelously with holiday fare and curries. Its nose
brings hints of sweet strawberry jam, apricot, banana, honey,
patchouli and honey. Flavors include strawberry, raspberry,
lemon chiffon, pineapple, and clover. Granted, there's
considerable sugar (6%), yet its acid profile is reminiscent of an
orange milkshake and enough to create balance. In Germany,
it's often unveiled on May Day--hence the
name."
