Tasting Notes:
“Lots of moving parts to this production. “York’s” is an unfamiliar
mélange (Barbera, Primitivo and Dolcetto, all Gorge-grown) and
shows considerable vintage influence. With the kind of wildness on
the “nose” and its dark savor, the wine happily calls to mind the
reds of certain off-the-beaten-path Italian wine regions. Always
tangy and a bit tannic on the release (thanks, Primitivo), this
should drink well with your gutsier tomato-based dishes (thanks,
Barbera.) I’m thinking of something with a fine piece of lamb, or
an undercurrent of porcini mushrooms, but we don’t hesitate to
bring out a bottle with pizza.”
