PHILOSOPHY
Crosspoint Pinot Noir is produced from cool climate Monterey County grapes – an appellation that continues to gain respect for producing outstanding Pinot Noir. The introduction of Dijon clones of Pinot Noir in combination with the old standby Pommard clone have dramatically increased the quality of the varietal in Monterey County and these newer clones – particularly 115, 667 and 777 - are the backbone of Crosspoint Pinot Noir. The hand harvested, whole berry Pinot Noir is stainless steel fermented in open-top tanks at elevated temperatures using the traditional Burgundian punch down technique to extract the lovely strawberry and cherry fruit characters and sweet pigment tannins while minimizing the hard or astringent seed tannins. After pressing and racking, the wine is moved to third and fourth fill French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and aging to optimally develop the true varietal grape character without the encumbrance of oak aromas and flavors. We continue to be impressed with Pinot Noir from Monterey and proudly introduce our 2006 vintage.

WINEMAKER’S COMMENTS
The 2006 Crosspoint Pinot Noir has a brilliant garnet red color of moderate depth. It has a complex varietal aroma of strawberry with hints of cherry and raspberry. Attractive fruit characters with a soft, velvety texture and some classic Pinot Noir spice dominate the palate. The light, soft texture of this wine and its characteristic mouth-filling fruit flavors are ideally suited to roast duck, grilled wild salmon or mushroom risotto.

2005 Hilltop Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon -- VINTAGE
The 2005 vintage offered a welcome respite after two consecutive years of draught in Paso Robles. The vines seemed to awaken with enthusiasm from the generous winter rainfall, not only with a healthy crop, but with bold and generous dark cherry and black currant fruit varietal expression which is the hallmark of this great Cabernet winegrowing region. Ripening occurred slowly in 2005, with . . .
2005 J. Lohr Carol's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon -- VINTAGE
The 2005 vintage in the Napa Valley started out as a very wet and cool growing season, and dire predictions about vintage quality had vineyard managers and winemakers extremely concerned. Additionally, it appeared to be an above average set, with vines burdened by heavier crops than normal. Despite these rather difficult conditions, 2005 proved to be a vintage of very consistent . . .

2006 Arroyo Vista Vineyard Chardonnay -- VINTAGE
The 2006 vintage in the Arroyo Seco region of Monterey County showed a return to near-normal rainfall of eleven inches, with cool, windy, Salinas valley weather throughout the growing season. Coming on the heels of the abundant 2005 crop, the 2006 Chardonnay crop was lighter than average, and produced intensely-flavored fruit. The ideal growing conditions promoted a slow and even flavor development . . .
2006 J. Lohr Estates Los Osos Merlot -- VINTAGE
The 2006 vintage saw a return to below average rainfall for Paso Robles, and with it came smaller vine canopies, smaller clusters and smaller berries in our Bordeaux varietals. In the case of Merlot, we not only had a very strong vintage in 2006, but we also welcomed a significant amount of fruit from J. Lohr’s vineyards located along Creston Road. Finally, we were blessed with no significant . . .
2006 J. Lohr Estates Old Vine Zinfandel -- 2006 J. LOHR ESTATES Old Vines Zinfandel, Paso Robles
VINTAGE
The 2006 harvest returned Paso Robles to drought conditions– the third of the last four years. The low rainfall however, was helped by a warm, slow-ripening vintage with minimal vine stress. This mild growing season pushed ripening slowly in 2006, with optimal flavor development occurring in late September. The intensely flavored . . .
2006 J. Lohr Hilltop Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon -- VINTAGE
The 2006 vintage for Hilltop is one of the most exciting in recent years! Although we saw a return to below average rainfall--and with, it smaller clusters and berries--the weather was ideal, with no significant heat events after veraison, with very mild temperatures throughout the entire harvest. This allowed sugar, flavor and tannin ripeness to occur simultaneously, producing Cabernet Sauvignon . . .
2006 J. Lohr Late Harvest White Riesling (375ml) -- VINTAGE
The 2006 vintage in the Arroyo Seco region of Monterey began with one of the wettest springs on record, with rain nearly every day in March—indeed a record. This unusual rain affected bud fertility, ultimately reducing cluster numbers (and consequently yields) in White Riesling. The growing season started warm, followed by very cool weather in June, July and August with the exception of . . .

2006 marks the inaugural vintage of J. Lohr Tower Road Vineyard Petite Sirah for limited national distribution. Originally created as a wine for our two J. It is built on a backbone of Petite Sirah, which is in . . .
2006 October Night Vineyard Chardonnay -- VINTAGE
Coming on the heels of a large 2005 vintage, 2006 saw a return to a winter of average rainfall (which is about 11 inches in Greenfield), a mild spring, and a more typical Chardonnay crop. I also made a conscious decision based on a tasting early in 2006 to let our Dijon and Musqué Chardonnay clones ripen more fully and create grapes of greater volume and texture. 2007 Carol's Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc -- VINTAGE
The 2007 vintage got off to an early start with bud break occurring in late March in St. Helena, followed by a warm, dry spring and early summer with scant rainfall. Additionally, what looked to be an average year in terms of cluster numbers and thus yield turned out to be a very light vintage due to fewer and lighter berries per bunch of both greater flavor and acid retention. This all . . .

2007 J. Lohr Estates Bay Mist White Riesling -- VINTAGE
The 2007 vintage got off to a late start due to extremely cold weather in January, which put our vines into a deep dormancy. White Riesling is typically the last variety to push buds, but the mid-April budbreak was late even for Riesling in the Arroyo Seco. We had good cluster numbers in 2007, but as the cool growing season progressed, we realized that the clusters were going to be lighter . . .
2007 J. Lohr Estates Old Vine Zinfandel -- 2007 J. LOHR ESTATES Old Vines Zinfandel, Paso Robles
VINTAGE
The 2007 vintage proved to be another dry year in Paso Robles – actually, the fourth year out of the last five. These consecutive dry years severely limited vine growth in 2007, and reduced cluster size, berry size, and ultimately yields, by as much as forty percent. The silver lining, of course, is that the reduced berry size made . . .
2007 J. Lohr Estates Riverstone Chardonnay -- VINTAGE
The vintage of 2007 saw very cool temperatures during flowering, resulting in a phenomenon called “hens and chicks” in our Chardonnay. This is a cluster with normal size berries, or “hens”-- mixed with tiny (seedless or unfertilized) berries – “chicks.” Although the clusters weigh less, the flavors are intensified in the tiny berries. And with very little rain in 2007 and very mild weather . . .
2007 J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet -- VINTAGE
2007 was a very dry year in Paso Robles, with the seasonal total for rainfall registering a scant 4.4 inches. Temperatures, fortunately, were mild, and did not exacerbate the extremely dry conditions. Canopies were small, as were cluster and berry size, resulting in some of the lowest yields we have seen in the last ten years. Despite these dire factors, the Cabernet Sauvignon was remarkably . . .

2007 was a very dry year in Paso Robles, with the seasonal total for rainfall registering a scant 4.4 inches. The 2007 vintage of J. Lohr’s Fog’s Reach Pinot Noir marks our second release of this noble varietal. Grown on cobbly, sandy loam soils in the cool, windy Arroyo Seco appellation of Monterey, Pinot here seems to thrive, producing tiny, deeply-colored and flavorful clusters. 2008 J. Lohr Estates Wildflower Valdiguié -- VINTAGE
2008 will go down in the record books for the poorest set for red varietals in the last 30 years.
