TASTING NOTES
Beautiful in the glass, with raspberry pink and amber tints. Pleasing aromas of fresh red raspberry, red currant, pink grapefruit and floral notes. Dry yet round and on the palate, with raspberry and strawberry notes, followed by sweet spices.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Delicious and refreshing aperitif served cold with feta, black olives and hard salami, also with mussels gratinee and dishes with curry spice
VINEYARDS
Our vineyard is located on the right bank of the Rhône river valley. La Rouvière refers to “Rouve” meaning “little stream” in Provencal. The vineyard is planted in a sunny area and exposed to the "mistral" (well-known wind of southern France). Vines are planted on two kinds of soil: the first is covered by Lauzes (white limestone), and the other is clay covered by round quartzite stones. Clay permits a slow and regular restitution of useful water for grape elaboration.
GRAPE VARIETIES
This wine is made with red and white grape varieties. Grenache (red 50 %) is very concentrated in natural sugars yielding a voluptuous wine. The Bourboulenc (white 15 %) gives freshness and floral notes, Cinsault (red 15 %) develops the aromatic fruit and Clairette (white 10 %). Finally the Carignan (red 10 %) gives structure to this rosé.
WINEMAKING
Select vineyard parcels ~ old Grenache (70 years old) and young Grenache (30-40 years old) with ideal exposures and low yields. Grapes are harvested by hand and rigorously sorted. Each grape variety is vinified separately after total de-stemming. Berries macerate 12 to 24 hours for an optimum extraction of aroma and color. The juice is then “bled” from the skins and the skins are pressed. The alcoholic fermentation keeps going from 8 to 10 days at low temperatures. Afterward, the blend is made with “bled” wine and pressed wine.
