From a cool vintage, the low yielding, terraced vines from nearby Glenrose Vineyard were the source for this aromatic alternative white wine. At elevations between 1,500 and 1,600 feet, along the steep face of this pyramid shaped limestone outcropping, the hardy vines produce tiny mineral inflected grape clusters. These Tablas clone plantings, now some 15 years old, came from “mother vines” alongside the Rhône River in southern France. The grapes were picked within a narrow window of emerging ripeness to emphasize vibrancy of fruit and optimum balance of natural fruit acidity.
Utilizing native yeast fermentation, the new wine went through full malolactic secondary fermentation and remained on its lees for nine months in neutral oak barrels. Emphasizing mouthwatering flavors of quince and lemon peel, its haunting Alpine floral purity offers the independent wine lover a counter-cultural option to Chardonnay. Hints of rich Roussanne honeycomb energetically compete with the bright green apple crisp Grenache Blanc, creating a food compatability ranging from Asian stir fry to grilled King Salmon fillets.
