Reminiscent Artwork
Among the idiosyncracies of Alzheimer's disease is regression backward in time. Experts believe that with the disease one pregressively loses his sense of short-term memory, then mid-term memory, leaving them with only their long term memory. To us on the outside, it appears as if they are regressing, moving backward in time to earlier periods in their life - perhaps when they were still working, going to school or raising a family. It is for these reasons that artwork, personal possessions and decorations more reminiscent of that time play such an important role. These unique pieces of artwork go back to the gold ol' days that may be more familiar and memorable to people with Alzheimer's.
These beautiful, high-quality piece of artwork include non-breakable Plexiglass pane, security mounting hardward (included) wood frame, beautifully matted antiques and vintage items. Each piece of artwork is individaully custom made so actural pieces of art will vary. Quantity of items is dependent upon the size of the artwork ordered.

What we like best about this artwork:
First of all, it's the reminiscent quality and how items from one's life experience are so much more familiar and apt to bring back pleasant memories. Secondly, it's the quality of these pieces. They are well-made, hand-made pieces of artwork, containing antique items. And finally, people love them.
Even today, I go to my barber shop and on the wall is a shadow box. It has a picture of a barber pole, a Norman Rockwell scene of a little boy in a barber's chair and a sucker (just like the ones the barber gave me, when I was a child, if I sat still in the chair). It doesn't take much to see how quickly such scenes can take you back to when, at age 10, I'd walk to Crestline Village, head for Mr. Treadwell's (barber shop) and get my hair cut. Sometimes I'd ride my bike. All these memories, from just a picture on the wall.
Reminiscent artwork, when it makes a connection, becomes a landmark. Rather than going down the hall and turning right, we go to the "records" (or picture of records) and turn right. That picture is so much more deeply embedded in our mind than trying to remember to turn right at the corner. And further down the hall can be another landmark, reinforcing the fact that we’re going the right way. These are cues and reminders that work subtly and effectively.
So where do you find good, reminiscent artwork? Right here. Browse through these "windows backward in time." Ask the experts, your residents, what they think and if they'd like something like this in their home.
