What we like best about this book:
The activities are interesting, productive and easy to accomplish. For example, on page 67: Painting with Marbles – You’ll need box large enough to accommodate a piece of paper (8-1/2" x 11"), paint and a few marbles. Tape down the paper, then using a plastic spoon, dip a marble in one color of tempera paint. Place it in the box and roll it around on the paper. Repeat with multiple colors to create an intersting piece of art. "Did you ever play marbles as a child?" For those in the later stages of dementia, help can be received, making this a group activity. Feel the hard, round marble, look at the swirling patterns formed by the rolling marble. "Ever hear of a cats-eye marble?"
Other activities include making paper, poetry writing, group discussions on topics such as camping, weddings, etc. Each activity is accompanied with ideas involving life stories, creativity, humor, stage specific adaptations, and conversations. It’s not your typical list of Alzheimer’s activities.
