Nineteen fifty six was a banner year for
the American automobile. Not only was '56 the year "American Racing
Equipment, Inc." was incorporated, but 1956 also marked a distintive
year in Chevy automaking, as they reached new highs in styling and performance.
Chevrolet offered their then "widest selection of body styles"
in their 45-year history which included three distinctive series - Bel
Air, "Two-Ten" and "One Fifty".
Increased horsepower and Motoramic styling
were highlights of the 1956 models. Chevrolet models in all three series
featured a bold new grill treatment, hooded headlamps, distinguishing
fender cutouts and newly designed tail lamps with the gasoline filler
cap concealed by the hinged left-side lamp. Fresh, new exterior and interior
colors added the final styling touch to mark the '56 Chevrolets as the
most glamorous vehicles of their time!
Relive a time when a trip to the local malt
shop was "a night out" and gas was just a few cents per gallon.
A time that witnessed the birth of "Americans", "5-spokes"
or "Torq Thrusts".
