Referred to as the “people’s wine”, Barbera accounts for about 40% of all wine produced in that region. A vigorous and versatile variety, Barbera can display a broad range of styles reflective of its specific microclimate or vinification. It is known, in particular, for its deep ruby color, full body and approachable tannins. In California, Barbera’s popularity is growing due to its versatility and the increased interest in Italian wines and cuisine.  TASTING NOTES: Our 2006 Barbera from Sonoma Valley is full bodied and structured. Blended with just a touch of Lagrein, this wine has a deep purple hue, balanced tannins and a nice acidity. It has flavors of dark berry notes and hints of tea and tobacco.  VINIFICATION: This wine was fermented in a small open-top tank and punched down daily by hand. To soften tannins and enhance texture, we aged the Barbera in French oak barrles for 18 months.
