In this warm Glen Ellen site, the vines expend most of their energy stretching deep into the ground in search of water. This means limited vine vigor and limitless flavor concentration in fully mature fruit. In 2006 Stone Farm was in-transition to Biodynamic farming, achieving certification with the 2008 vintage. WINEMAKING: Grapes from separate blocks were harvested and fermented in small closed-top fermentors. The lots were cold soaked for five days and left on the skins for 16 days, before they were aged in French oak for 14 months. The wine was bottled in May 2008. AGING: This is a rich, supple and complex Syrah. It is ripe in flavor and full-bodied, with generous depth and length. Flavors are reminiscent of boysenberry jam, dark plum, toast, spicy oak and tobacco. Given the wine's tannic structure, it should be best over the next 2 to 4 years. Drink with savory foods, including meat lasagna, roast rabbit or steak tartare.
