2006 Lindstrom Cabernet Sauvignon Stag's Leap
(inaugural 2005 vintage scored 93 points with Wine spectator. This vintage not yet rated)
WInery Notes:
Very ripe, dark berry aromas come forward first; dark raspberries,
fragrant boysenberries, warm ripe berries-in-the-briars aromas. These
are supported by a few high notes of cedar, brown cigar-tobacco, and a
subtle wafts of anise. On the palate, the wine is bright and fresh
with black cherry/raspberry sirup flavors, and a dense, soft,
mouth-coating texture carries the wine through the mid-palate. The
finish is equally rich, with a few light notes of chocolate and vanilla
adding layers of complexity to the berry/black fruit flavors. Though
unmistakably Stags Leap District in its texture, this wine’s structure
also displays the intense color, aroma, and flavor density which is
appropriately derived from its steep, rocky hillside origins.
This
100% Cabernet Sauvignon was produced entirely from fruit grown on the
Lindstrom estate in Stags Leap District, Napa Valley. The eleven
blocks of vineyard were assessed independently for ripeness, and were
harvested by hand between 9/29 and 10/16/2006. The fruit was gently
destemmed, then fermented in small open-top and closed-top fermenters.
After fourteen days the fruit was pressed, then transferred to small
barrels (80% new French oak) for about 21 months of barrel ageing. The
Cabernet was blended in July 2007 and bottled in May 2008. A total of
632 cases were produced. Celia Welsh winemaker
