2005 Praxis Lagrein
During a trip to the Italian Alps, Bill became fascinated by this wine that he had never previously tasted. We first tried Lagrein while on a hunt to see the remains of Utzi, the Alpine Ice Man. (Susan was an archaeologist in her earlier life). Pronounced Lah-GRAYHN, these grapes have been grown in Northern Italy for over 300 years.
In the spirit of Praxis where Bill gets to play a little with winemaking, we decided to make our own. We found a vineyard of American Lagrein on the Central Coast. The wine is deep, dark red and has the body of a Merlot. Rich, ripe plum and berry flavors are accented by nuances of vanilla and chocolate. Medium-bodied with a silky mouth feel, the wine is ready to drink now.
This is a California Wine.
