2008 Francis Ford Coppola Directors Pinot Noir Mendocino North Coast
winery notes:
Our Francis Ford Coppola Director’s Pinot Noir has a silky texture, exquisite fragrance, and luscious flavors of raspberries, strawberries, cinnamon and spice. Pair with turkey and cranberry sauce, pork tenderloin, or creamy mushroom fettuccine for a decadent dining experience.
You’ll notice that the appellation designation on our Pinot Noir is “North Coast.” This is because a portion of the fruit for this wine comes from Mendocino County, which is located directly north of Sonoma County. Since the defining character of our Director’s wines is created through the intricate blending of fruit from different regions, we decided that adding fruit from a neighboring appellation was the best practice if it helped us create the ideal style of Pinot Noir. Both Sonoma County and Mendocino County are heavily influenced by the Pacific Ocean, but receive more than adequate sunlight hours for ripening. Our Clone 667 Pinot Noir is grown in vineyards that experience mild daytime temperatures and fog, which creates cool conditions in the vineyards every evening. Upon harvest, we whole-cluster press the fruit and perform multiple punch downs each day in our open-top fermentors in order to coax from our grapes as much color and flavor as possible.
