ACCLAIM
93 Points - "The terrific 1999 (a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot) possesses a murky purple color as well as a sweet nose of vanilla, Asian spices, licorice, and
blackberry/currant fruit. Full-bodied, dense, and chewy
with moderately high tannin, this large-scaled, pure red
will handsomely repay cellaring. Anticipated maturity:
2007-2020+." - Robert Parker Jr., Wine Advocate, August 2002
92+ Points - "Classy aromas of blackcurrant, dark chocolate, coffee,
leather and tobacco…with flavors similar to the aromas.
Faint complicating note of game. Solidly structured,
elegant wine, finishing with serious tannins, a peppery
nuance and excellent persistence." - Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar, May 2002
VINEYARD SOURCING
Almost ninety percent of the 1999 Cardinale is produced from estate owned vineyards on Mount Veeder, Howell Mountain and the western facing Mayacamas mountains above the Alexander Valley. The balance of the blend is from the prestigious Les Pavots Vineyard along the ridges of Knights Valley. Each vineyard block is selected for its distinct footprint of individual flavor components. These unique flavor profiles are layered in a blend, creating a singular expression that captures each vineyard’s definable attributes.
