For me, this Old Vine Zinfandel block is truly a labor of love. Fantastic quality and very low yield mean I can only make less than 100 cases each year, but I felt it is my duty as a steward of this beautiful land to farm these historic 97-year old vines. They make a spectacular, big fruit forward wine.
This old vine zinfandel continues where the highly rated 2007 Giana Zinfandel leaves off, with a bit more muscular and exotic characteristics than its sibling. This wine is blessed with a wonderful floral nose of lilacs and roses followed by honeysuckle and black currant. Red and black fruits dominate the palate with classic Zinfandel spiciness adding zip and prolonging the finish. Only 40 cases made.
