Roux is the nickname of my oldest daughter, Margaux, and this wine is my meditation to our relationship. If Petite Sirah is your style, grab it now as this old block only gives us a little wine each year, and cellars beautifully as well.
This is my favorite wine for "big red" meals. This is Petite Sirah for both fans of the varietal and skeptics. The density of the wine will appeal to proponents of big red wines but without any of the rough edges that can turn people off to Petite Sirah. Try it with my Wine Braised Beef Short Ribs recipe, a winning recipe made popular at my Bottega Restaurant in Yountville.
2007 is a favorite vintage in recent years, and stands up to this wine's prior 89 Point score from Wine Spectator in 06, and Gold Medal in 05. We've never made a smoother Petite Sirah than the 2007. It has a deliciousness factor due to fully rip and integrated tannins, all of which were set up perfectly by the vineyard conditions. The nose and palate both feature very dark fruited cores augmented by mint, cola and a black Muscat that has become a trademark for this bottling. This is my cellar favorite, and wonderful partner to winter's long roasted meats and comfort foods. Only 360 cases made.
