In our 2007 Sauvignon Blanc, the Sauvignon Blanc from
Yountville and St. Helena contributes the refreshing aromas of
flint and nectarine with the flavors of passion fruit and lime rind.
The Semillon from the 44 year old, dry-farmed vineyards in
Yountville was a rare gem, adding textural depth and floral
complexity to the long, bright line of the Sauvignon grape. At
20%, the Semillon adds aromas of rose water and flavors of
wildflower honey and fresh cut hay. Thanks to the temperate
vintage, our 2007 is a winemaker’s dream. In your glass is the
fulfillment of the tangy, flavorful and mineral driven wine that
we have practiced to make for the past decade.
The 2006 vintage of Old Vine Sauvignon Blanc produced an elegant and beautifully balanced wine.
The texture is unusually soft and rounded for a wine of this acidity
and relatively modest alcohol. The aromas best represented among
the many are quince, wildflower honey, and almond blossom. The
flavors on the palate range from quince to candied lemon peel, then
on to a deep streak of minerality. This is a classic bottling inspired by
vines and wines of a different era.
For those who know and love real Chablis or the classic
Napa Chardonnays of the 1970’s, this may be for you. This is
the style that delivers fruit first with a nice stripe of
minerality. Hold the buttery malolactic, we don’t need it
here. Fresh pear, golden apple, and the wildflower
impression of a honey comb are the aromas that come from
this wine. The palate runs long and crisp with pear and
pineapple mixing with orange zest to touch down with the
light, yet tangible finish of chalky minerals. What about this
mineral thing that winemakers wax on about? Limestone,
quartz, slate, chalk; these all are marks of terroir, that
unmistakable flavor of a place. This wine has that indelible
mark that makes is a wine of a place. Just as the classics
endure, the presence and message of deliciousness from
these vines endures, for your enjoyment.
