WEASELS RIPPED MY FLESH is a collection of live and studio tracks representing different aspects of The Mothers Of Invention's work from 1967-1969. Digitally remastered in 1989. Once attracted by the irresistibly sinister Neon Park album cover illustration, the new owner has to play it. And once again, unless you are already familiar with this wacky genius, the results can be challenging. From the perplexing Germanic interlude of the opener, 'Didja Get Any Onya?', to the complex xylophone changes of 'The Eric Dolphy Memorial Barbecue', Zappa's music should always have been played loud. As background music at a normal volume it serves only to irritate, except for almost normal rock tracks, such as the interpretation of Little Richard's 'Directly From My Heart To You'. It ends with some brilliant free-form something or other. All this was 25 years before Pat Metheny's Zero Tolerence For Silence.
