He earned a PhD. in philosophy from the National University of Ireland in 1994. He studied music in Guitar Craft for many years and uses the New Standard Tuning exclusively. His first album as a leader (The Electric Distant Surfacing released on his own label Cosmic Vending Machine in 2000) features legendary drummer Bob Moses and five original compositions.
