Considered by some to be a coffee of occasion (usually after dinner when you want something strong and dark to put an emphatic closure to a great meal, or as a good accompaniment to a cognac), others like French Roast all day long.
Our French Roast is a balanced blend of snappy Colombian Supremo with the heavy bodied Sumatran Mandheling. As a coffee is roasted darker it loses some body -- hence the Sumatran, with its naturally heavy body, is added to counter this loss. It is our best selling coffee by the cup and by the pound, so it seems we have struck a good note.
This is also the best coffee to use if you're making cafe au lait. Simply brew it up very strong and add equal parts heated milk. And, similarly, it works well as an espresso for making cappuccino's and latte's, though we recommend the Italian Stallion Blend for brewing straight espresso shots.
Educational note: the darker you roast a coffee, the less caffeine remains. (Another reason that French Roast is very suitable as an after-dinner coffee.)
