2005 Viognier
The long cool 2005 growing season was ideal for Viognier at the Fralich Vineyard
in the Templeton Gap. Ripening was delayed by several weeks, allowing the fruit
to develop an amazing complexity of flavor while retaining its vibrant acidity.
Grapes were harvested early in the morning and immediately whole cluster pressed.
Neutral barrels and stainless steel barrels were used for the fermentation.
The 2005 Viognier displays a bright, fresh aroma reminiscent of pears, jasmine
tea, and sweet Meyer lemon. Barrel fermentation yields a fuller-bodied wine,
which complements the fruitfulness intrinsic to the varietal. The flavors are
both creamy and fresh, culminating in a long, smooth finish balanced by an appealing
tartness.
