2006 Syrah Sélectionnée
With so many exceptional Syrahs in our cellar each year, it’s always a challenge choosing the best barrels from which to make the Sélectionné. The selection varies from year to year, but the blend will always showcase the very diverse range of Syrah characteristics within the Paso Robles appellation. The resulting fruit character will always be bolstered by the judicious application of just the right amount of oak, with a wide array of coopers used to bring out the best in each lot. In 2006, we combined wines from five different growers, and the emphasis is on big, bold, black fruit. The tannins are firm but forgiving, yielding to some smoky, very Northern Rhône flavors. The mouth feel is plush and ponderous, with enough acidity to carry some complexity through to the long finish.
