2008 Viognier
Memories of Condrieu… We make our Viognier in a lean old-world style that, we feel, accentuates the best qualities of this varietal. It is floral without being perfumey; fruity, but not sweet or cloying; elegant, and definitely light on its feet. Gravelly, white vineyard soils give rise to terroir-driven minerality and complex aromas of mandarin orange zest and ripe mango. On the palate, balanced acidity mingles with delicate flavors to create a textured wine of great elegance and versatility.
Blend: 100% Viognier
2006 Syrah Sélectionné
With so many exceptional Syrahs in our cellar each year, it’s always a challenge choosing the best barrels from which to make the Sélectionné. The selection varies from year to year, but the blend will always showcase the very diverse range of Syrah characteristics within the Paso Robles appellation. The resulting fruit character will always be bolstered by the judicious application of just the right amount of oak, with a wide array of coopers used to bring out the best in each lot. In 2006, we combined wines from five different growers, and the emphasis is on big, bold, black fruit. The tannins are firm but forgiving, yielding to some smoky, very Northern Rhône flavors. The mouth feel is plush and ponderous, with enough acidity to carry some complexity through to the long finish.
Blend: 100% Syrah
2006 Vertigo
Darker and more brooding than its previous incarnation, this year’s Vertigo shows deep plum and berry aromas backed by smoky notes of cocoa and turned earth. On the palate, the wine bursts with flavor like cherry pie. It’s generous, layered, and exceptionally balanced. The finish is long, with plenty of tannin that makes the 2006 Vertigo a wine to drink now or lay down for 4-5 years.
Blend: 70% Grenache, 18% Mourvèdre & 12% Syrah
