Each of the five varietals contributes its own distinct character and flavor to this carefully crafted Rhone blend. After aging in French oak barrels for eighteen months, the blend comes together to create a whole much greater than the sum of its parts. Dark, plush, and inviting, the cuvee displays aromas of unending complexity. Red and black fruits are complimented by rich aromas of coffee, spices, and charred meat. The mouth is well-structured with a sweet core of ripe, cherry-like fruit. Ample tannins and balanced acidity speak to the wine’s ability to age for at least another 5-10 years. Blend: 29% Mourvèdre, 26% Grenache, 26% Syrah, 10% Counoise & 9% Cinsault 2005 Syrah Sélectionné 1.5L Each year we make Syrah from some of the finest vineyards on Paso Robles’ famed Westside. To create this wine, we selected the very best barrels from six different vineyard lots, blending them to showcase the finer points of each vineyard. The resulting Syrah is intensely concentrated yet elegant, with remarkable balance and a long, firm finish. Showing a concentrated garnet color, the Syrah Sélectionné truly embodies the best of Paso Robles Syrah. Bursting with jam-like fruit, the nose is reminiscent of perfectly ripened red currant and blackberry balanced by a loamy, woodsy quality. Soft yet well-structured on the palate, this wine can easily be enjoyed upon release, but will stand up to cellar aging for at least another decade.
