Vintage<BR>2008 was a fascinating and high quality vintage. We harvested fruit in hurried spurts, punctuated by relative calm- interval harvesting if you will! There were effectively three harvest phases, all with fairly unique weather surrounding each period. Quality was good to great with the later harvested fruit being some of the best we have seen in recent memory; featuring great character and balance.<BR><BR>Vineyards<BR>The grapes for this particular bottling came from two separate vineyards in Monterey County. Monterey County Chardonnay does particularly well without the influence of oak, as it shows a great range of complex flavors coupled with beautiful texture. We blend newer Dijon clones and older so called, heritage selections to fashion the crisp and focused style of Skyline Chardonnay.<BR><BR>Winemaking<BR>Our bottling of “Skyline Chardonnay” represents a diversion from our usual production methods. We eschew the use of any form of oak in this wine, instead preferring to focus on the crisp, clean and fresh characters inherent in the fruit. The lots were harvested at full maturity and immediately whole-cluster pressed to stainless steel tanks for fermentation and aging.<BR><BR>Tasting Notes<BR>Ripe apple and Bosc pear flavors are prominent and drive the round, but focused palate of the 2008 Skyline Chardonnay. The nose features similar fruit notes, with some baking spice and floral tones. There is a clean, freshness to the wine, but also depth of flavor- a unique combo that makes this a delicious summer drink. Grilled seafood or poultry would be an ideal match. Drink now.</P>
