VINTAGE
The 2005 vintage offered a welcome respite after two consecutive years of draught in Paso Robles. The vines seemed to awaken with enthusiasm from the generous winter rainfall, not only with a healthy crop, but with bold and generous dark cherry and black currant fruit varietal expression which is the hallmark of this great Cabernet winegrowing region. Ripening occurred slowly in 2005, with the cool growing season retarding flavor development and sugar accumulation. We taste the Cabernet fruit every couple of days in Hilltop, waiting for a doughy berry pie flavor to develop with easily extractable color from the Cabernet skins. After a patient wait, J. Lohr Hilltop Vineyard Cabernet finally reached its optimal flavor and we began to harvest October 3rd in our Hilltop Vineyard blocks 55 and 56. The strength and depth of flavor in 2005--combined with the inviting black cherry and currant fruit--have produced a remarkable Hilltop Cabernet.

WINEMAKER’S COMMENTS
Very dark, red-purple in color with youthful hues, the 2005 J. Lohr Hilltop Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has complex aromas of black cherries and blackberries with a bouquet of cedar, anise, licorice, tar and vanilla toasted oak. The 2005 Hilltop is a plump, luscious mouthful of wine, with supple yet ample texture and balance, reminiscent of Bordeaux’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines with the structure to age for 10 to 15 years. Serve with Beef Bourguignon or hearty stews.

2006 J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet -- VINTAGE
The 2006 vintage saw a return to below average rainfall for Paso Robles, and with it came smaller vine canopies, smaller clusters and smaller Cabernet Sauvignon berries. The combination of these elements in 2006 made for excellent quality in all of our Paso Robles red varietals, but in particular, Cabernet was the most positively impacted. The outstanding color and flavor development brought . . .
2006 October Night Vineyard Chardonnay -- VINTAGE
Coming on the heels of a large 2005 vintage, 2006 saw a return to a winter of average rainfall (which is about 11 inches in Greenfield), a mild spring, and a more typical Chardonnay crop. I also made a conscious decision based on a tasting early in 2006 to let our Dijon and Musqué Chardonnay clones ripen more fully and create grapes of greater volume and texture. Both the weather and cluster . . .
2007 J. Lohr Gesture GSM -- VINTAGE
The 2007 vintage was largely defined by a shortage of winter rainfall which was just 40% of normal. This resulted in intense fruit with 10-20% lower yields than 2005 and 2006 in general. Seasonal summer heat spikes occurred earlier than normal, before the fruit had softened at veraison. The daily maximum temperature exceeded 100 degrees only three times between veraison and harvest at these . . .
2008 Cypress Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc -- The windswept Cypress tree, the unmistakable signature plant of California’s coastal terrain, owes its gnarled appearance to the maritime air’s persistent movement either inland or seaward. The ocean’s influence on the Central Coast winegrowing region is significant, keeping coastal and inland valleys refreshingly cool, while preserving the grape’s natural acidity and flavor. 2006 J. Lohr Estates Los Osos Merlot -- VINTAGE
The 2006 vintage saw a return to below average rainfall for Paso Robles, and with it came smaller vine canopies, smaller clusters and smaller berries in our Bordeaux varietals. In the case of Merlot, we not only had a very strong vintage in 2006, but we also welcomed a significant amount of fruit from J. Lohr’s vineyards located along Creston Road. Finally, we were blessed with no significant . . .
2005 J. Lohr Estates South Ridge Syrah -- VINTAGE
The 2005 vintage yielded an abundant crop as the result of intense rains in the winter of 2005. The vines bounced back with healthy, quality grapes for the year, with full, round fruit characters and true varietal expression. As our Block 15 matures, the fruit from this vineyard plays a more vital role in this blend. This year, the Australian clones brought a dark complexion of blackberry . . .
