The 2007 "R" Zinfandel is the best Zinfandel I have made from Tom’s grapes. In fact, when we put the blend together in the lab and compared it to the 2006, I was embarrassed for the older wine - the youngster showed so much better. The 2007 wine has a carmine hue with a medium full purple color. The aromas are of dense ripe plums, cassis, currants and raspberry. The bouquet has plenty of smoky hazelnut and
mocha, but not so much that it interferes with the intense Zinfandel fruit. On the palate, a creamy coating of blackberry and oak leads to a long and satisfying finish. The judges at the 2009 California State Fair awarded this wine 94 points and a gold medal.
