PHILOSOPHY
Lynmar Estate celebrates the distinctive terroir of the various vineyards we farm to create wines that are elegant, complex, balanced, and age worthy. Acting as stewards of the land, the winemaking team takes great care to craft wines that truly represent the dynamic, cool-climate soils from the vineyards where the grapes are grown. A genuine mosaic of the land, the people, the food and the synergy of place at Lynmar Estate is revealed in each vintage. Lynmar’s Rosé of Pinot Noir is meant to embody the spirit of summer. While this Rosé is full of lush fruit flavors, it is always dry and can pair with almost anything or simply be enjoyed on its own.
2008 GROWING SEASON
The 2008 vintage is looking to be our best yet for this wine. While a more challenging vintage for our regular Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the sudden late-season warmth we saw at the end of August and early September pushed our Rosé vineyards to perfect maturity without “over-maturity”. This gave us intense fruit flavors, yet with moderate alcohol potential and excellent natural acidity. We feel the defining quality of this wine from 2008 will be its rare combination of intensity, purity, and balance.
Blend
Our sixth vintage of Rosé is sourced not only from our Quail Hill Vineyard, but also from select vineyards throughout the Russian River Valley including Archer Vineyard, Cal Plans Vineyard, and Terra de Promissio Vineyard.
VINEYARDS & WINEMAKING
Two methods are employed to produce this wine. Our primary method of production is the classic method of Southern France. In this method, fruit specifically selected and harvested for our Rosé was fully de-stemmed, then cold soaked for two to three hours before undergoing a gentle membrane press followed by fermentation at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. To supplement this fruit, we employed the saignée method, where designated lots of Pinot Noir and Syrah were carefully “bled” from tank soon (between two and 24 hours) after de-stemming in order to run off a small amount of juice with just a little color and no tannins. This improved the skin-to-juice ratio of these lots and provided further raw material for the Rosé. After controlled temperature fermentation, aging occurred in a combination of neutral French oak barrels and small stainless tanks so as not to muddle the wonderful fruity aromas and flavors with any oak character. Early bottling allowed us to capture all the freshness this wine has to offer.
TASTING NOTES
The color of the wine is a beautiful light ruby with soft salmon tones. The aroma is a combination of intensely pure strawberry/rhubarb fruit complemented by an uncommon note of blackcurrant buds. In the glass, the wine yields further notes of white flowers and rosemary alongside more subtle fruit accents of cranberry, orange peel, and peaches. The texture is soft and round, with perfectly balanced acidity to accompany the juicy flavors and easy-to-drink structure. The finish is long and extremely refreshing. This is a Dry Rosé that stands on its own with exceptional elegance or can be paired with a wide variety of foods and cuisines. Enjoy with good weather and good friends!
