"Following the Pelissa family's mantra to "let the vineyard do the talking," the 2003 Temescal Cabernet Sauvignon shows its Rock Cairn Vineyard pedigree with its inky color (probably helped along by a little malbec in the blend).
This wine has "grip!" Fat mid-palate flavors. Delicious from beginning to middle to end!
Background
Several years ago the PELISSA-HALE FAMILY began the journey to produce estate wines commercially. These grapes are farmed organically from prime vineyards in Oakville and Yountville. Family ownership has allowed the fortunate control of implementing organic vineyard techniques in the world class sub appellation vineyards providing magnificent fruit for use in the Napa Valley Estate wines as well as to neighboring wineries that purchase fruit from NWC. In continued pursuit of excellence, the Pelissa Family has gone back in time to share the history of the land, the family legacy and the quality of fruit with the inaugural launch of the top of the line estate Cabernet Sauvignon called Temescal. The Pelissa-Hale Family welcomes you to try the limited production special release offering of the single-vineyard Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Wine
The backbone of the Cabernet Sauvignon is the fruit we harvested from our Rock Cairn Vineyard. Thirty-two acres are uniquely nestled in the western hills of Oakville. Rock Cairn is an archaeological site given to the hill surrounding the vineyard. Native Americans who traveled the Valley long before a grapevine was ever planted would travel over the hill and deposit a small rock on a cairn, saying a prayer for safe travel.

Tasting Notes
Enthusiastic feedback so far is exciting, from the trade, friends and family. This 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon received only French oak barrel aging to provide the wine with a rich, supple mouth feel and a hint of toastiness. This full bodied wine delivers a firm core of plum and blackberry followed by very ripe black cherry and red current fruit. Bold and luscious with hints of dark chocolate, caramel and spice, this wine exemplifies the blockbuster year all of the critics are raving about.
