The fruit here is from the Nord Family Trio Vineyard in Yountville, where the soil is characteristically gravel and loam, with little or no clay. As a result, the fermentation here frequently struggles, and normally lasts a month or two longer than with the Carneros bottling. We get less tropical fruit component and more of a suggestion of hazelnut and mineral. The texture is broad and pleasing, and the crisp acidity ties all of the components together. Some say the wine appears to be more French. We agree. If I had to choose one wine from Neyers Vineyards to accompany me through life, this might be it. But I’m glad I don’t.
