We produced a Grenache at Neyers years ago but it came from a vineyard that was developed using clonal selections. We abandoned the project after a few trials. The Rossi Ranch Grenache is planted to budwood from an existing vineyard, and they haven’t been cloned or genetically modified in any way. The result is a red similar to a wine from the southern Rhône, a chance to brush up against the wines from Châteauneuf du Pape, Gigondas or Lirac. The aroma is jammy, in a subtle way, with loads of upfront charm and flavor. There’s a broad softness to the palate and a finish that brings to mind the rocky minerality of the hills in western Sonoma. Try a bottle the next time you’re having leg of lamb.
