I don’t know of a Zinfandel vineyard in Napa Valley higher than this one. These low yielding, hillside vines owned by Chiles Valley grower Jay Heminway are at an elevation of more than 1800 feet. The rocky, shallow soil ensures that the fruit is packed full of generous, spicy flavors. In 2006, yields were barely two tons per acre, and the wine already exhibits an attractive forwardness. A customer of ours called last year’s version of this wine his favorite Zinfandel of the year. This one is certainly as good.
