Vineyard Character: Located about two miles west of Sebastopol on Pleasant Hill Rd. (in an area known as Sebastopol Hills), the 18-acre Jenkins Ranch is situated on gently rolling hills at an elevation of approximately 400 feet. Another one of our vineyards that was once an apple orchard, Jenkins Ranch features Goldridge series gravelly loam soils planted to Dijon selections 667, 115 and 777. These vines were planted under the guidance of renowned vineyard manager Charlie Chenoweth in 2001, and consistently produce small yields (approximately 1.5 tons per acre in 2007), highlighting beautiful Sonoma Coast red fruit flavors, high acidity and ethereal aromatics.
Tasting Notes: This is a supple and satisfying wine with an elegant texture that balances lushness with a certain demure quality. Walnut spice bread aromatics mingle with layers of clove, cinnamon spice and mulled cherry cider. On the palate, it is smooth and creamy, with an easy-drinking charm that highlights raspberry, cherry and pomegranate flavors, seamless tannins and a soft, lingering finish.
Winemaking: 100% Pinot Noir; Multi-yeast fermentations (wild & cultured); 100% malo-lactic fermentation in barrel; 40% new Burgundian French oak barrels; Bottled without fining or filtration
