Vineyard Character: This site is located in Penngrove, at the base of the Petaluma Gap growing region. The Petaluma Gap is markedly cooler than the Russian River Valley, due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, which cools the AVA with both wind and extreme fog. This vineyard, located at 300 feet above sea level, is higher than most vineyards planted in the Petaluma Gap area, and has consistently yielded 2 tons/ acre. It is planted to two Dijon clones- 828 and 667. The Dijon clone 828 produces a dense and expansive, plummy mouthfeel, while the Dijon clone 667 is known for producing perfumed, floral aromatics.
Tasting Notes: The wine is full of bright red fruits; raspberry, Bing cherry, and cassis, aromas typical of cold Pinot sites, but it also has a lush and rich mouth feel with great length and texture.
Winemaking: 100% Pinot Noir; Multi-yeast fermentations (wild & cultured); 100% malo-lactic fermentation in barrel; 40% new Burgundian French oak barrels; Bottled without fining or filtration
