Vineyard Character: This vineyard exhibits classic Carneros flavors of strawberries and raspberries mingled with mocha, espresso and cinnamon. Our HYDE VINEYARD Carneros Pinot Noir consists of grapes from three small parcels of the vineyard planted to a veritable who’s who of the finest Pinot clones. Though this wine focuses on a core of Hyde-Calera grapes, it also includes Dijon 777, 667, 115, Swan, Pommard and Bebe clone fruit. As a result, it is at once delicate and fascinatingly intricate, while at the same time being dense, deeply colored and extracted.
Tasting Notes: From its startling blue-garnet hue onwards, this is a singular and profound expression of Pinot Noir that embodies all the reasons why Hyde has earned its reputation as one of California’s grand cru vineyards. Bringing together concentration and graceful complexity, the 2007 vintage is big and rich with a palate of soft, coating tannins, while still displaying elegant acid balance, a core of minerality and a lithe, vibrant charm. Seductive aromas of cherry, kirsch and bittersweet chocolate, segue to red fruit flavors of raspberry, cranberry and framboise, with hints of char and cocoa.
Winemaking: 100% Pinot Noir; Multi-yeast fermentations (wild & cultured); 100% malo-lactic fermentation in barrel
