Vineyard Character: Defined by its high elevation and low-vigor uplifted marine soils, Alder Springs Vineyard produces tiny vines with equally tiny clusters and berries. Reflecting its distinctive mountain terroir, Pinot Noir from Alder Springs displays sophisticated texture and flavors – most notably briar, licorice and exotic spicy aromas of cedar and clove.
Tasting Notes: A more energetic and aromatic incarnation of our ALDER SPRINGS VINEYARD –Mendocino Pinot Noir than in previous vintages, this wine displays a vibrant nose of plum skin, cranberry and tart cherry. On the palate, it segues to flavors that bring together both red and dark fruit layers, alongside enticing notes of sassafras and licorice. Like architectural elements, the wine’s acidity and high-mountain tannins combine to create focus and poise. Still somewhat youthful and unbridled, this wine promises to develop beautifully over the next few years.
Winemaking: 100% Pinot Noir; Multi-yeast fermentations (wild & cultured); Sur lie aged with regular stirring;
100% malo-lactic fermentation in barrel; 50% new Burgundian French oak barrels; Bottled without filtration
