2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Reserve -- Peju Province Shopping Cart
93 points Wine Enthusiast - Best of the Year issue Dec. 2005
This wine showcases what Rutherford Cabernets are all about: great fruit expression, good concentration, with very supple tannins, and slight earthy / mineral quality.
Winemaker's Notes: 100% Estate grown fruit from the HB Vineyard in Rutherford. The wine was pumped over twice daily and had an extended maceration on the skins. It was barrel aged for 24 months in new tight grain French oak. The wine was racked quarterly and lightly egg white fined prior to bottling in December 2004. 98.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Merlot, 0.5% Cabernet Franc.
Sensory Description: Intense opaque black and red hues. Displays aromas of blackberry, kirsch, cocoa, cedar, clove, vanilla, with a hint of green olive and ripe raspberries. Very extracted and dense on the palate, with flavors of black fruits (black cherry, cola berry) accented with hints of vanilla bean and roasted coconut, and a slight earthiness. The finish is very long and seamless, accented by richly textured, supple oak tannins.
