Beginning with the 1998 Vintage, our winemaking team began focusing effort on a specific blend that showcases our best sparkling wine fruit from the Napa Valley. Our Brut Napa Valley is built upon the rich, flavorful and tart Chardonnays along Bayview Avenue in the southern Napa Carneros. The deep, dark, loamy soils and the cool maritime air of this pocket of the Carneros yield grapes with concentrated fruit flavors and exceptionally high acidity, ideal for making brut bubbly. Barrel and malo-lactic lots add complexity to the aromas while delivering viscosity and polish to the palate. Pinot Noirs from nearby vineyards lend additional fruitful spice and layered depth.
With approximately five years of age “en tirage”, the nuttiness and baked bread characteristics derived from yeast aging are noteworthy. This sparkling wine should develop beautifully in the bottle for at least 20 or more years to come. Made in limited quantities, this appellation-specific bottling is especially made for our Schramsberg Cellar Club. The initial blending is carried out during our annual Spring Blending - Camp Schramsberg each March.
“The 2004 Brut Napa Valley expresses a broad Chardonnay range, with Meyer lemon custard, honeydew melon, and glazed pineapple aromas. Bottle-aged complexity chimes in with hints of roasted almonds and crème brulee. On the palate, generous flavors of grapefruit and baked apple crisp lead way to a creamy, fruit-bursting mid-palate. Notes of brown sugar and sweet spice fade into a zesty and lingering finish”
