As a counterpart to the Brut Napa Valley sparkling wine, the winemaking team produced its first Brut Anderson Valley bubbly, focused on Pinot Noir, in 2001. Here is the second bottling in that series, showcasing our very best vineyards in this small coastal valley in southern Mendocino County. Lying 15-20 miles inland from the rugged, cool Pacific coastline, heavy fogs throughout the growing season allow for excellent flavor development and acid retention in our grapes grown there. The tangy, red berry and orange citrus flavors of our Anderson Valley Pinot Noirs are well-showcased in this brut offering.
With approximately four years of age “en tirage”, the nuttiness and baked bread characteristics derived from yeast aging are noteworthy. This sparkling wine should develop beautifully in the bottle for at least 20 or more years to come. Made in limited quantities, this appellation-specific bottling is especially made for our Schramsberg Cellar Club.
“The 2004 Brut Anderson Valley has bright, bursting aromas of strawberry and ripe cherry, accentuated by subtle nuances of candied pineapple and just a hint of hazelnut. The palate is knit seamlessly together. Its crisp entry leads to flavors of juicy strawberry, blood orange and “fresh from the oven” cherry pie which give way to a finish of tangy and balanced acidity.”
