The wine displays a bright pale yellow color with lemony lights. Aromas include powerful notes of candied fruit and wild flowers in a very flinty wine with delicate touches of pineapple and white peach. The balance is rich and increasingly full with a distinctive defining freshness. Flavors of citrus fruit, citron and tangerine give this subtle wine a tang and depth and lead to a dazzling finish.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Excellent aperitif with salty cheeses (e.g. chevre, feta, manchego) and green olives, also with roasted or grilled fish

TERROIR
The Clos Poggiale vineyards are on the east coast of Corsica. They cover 24 acres on the plateau of Pianiccia, a promontory backing onto the mountains overlooking the plain of Costa Serena. The soils are barren but deep, which is very good for water management, a vital factor in very dry climates. The higher parts of the Clos consist of granitic arenite and colluviums. The lower parts lie on a clayey limestone and smooth pebble subsoil.

CLIMATE
The combined influence of the sea and mountains creates a unique micro-climate where the exuberance of the sun is tempered by the wind. Phenolic development of the grapes is enhanced by the cool air rolling down from the hills at night. This night air stream gives rise to wide temperature differences which are a defining feature of the climate.

VARIETIES & CULTIVATION METHODS
Clos Poggiale Blanc is made entirely from Vermentino grapes, from vines cultivated for low yields with few bunches per vine - these few bunches concentrate the full potential of the plant.

VINIFICATION
Vermentino is a slow ripening grape variety, so the berries must be left to reach their full golden color before harvest. This is when they have acquired the sweetness of candied fruit and amazing aromatic potency. The harvest is not before early October when the temperatures have started to drop. Night harvesting preserves all the freshness and fragrance of the fruit. Half the harvest is skin macerated for 8 hours while the other half is cold-pressed immediately. The juices are cold-clarified and then fermented at 13°C before being left on the lees until it is time for bottling.

MATURING Fermentation and maturing are done in tank to bring out the essential nature of the grape, the terroir and the style of our estate.

SKU: VE04CP7S
Apply my Wine Club Discounts!: No, I'm not a Wine Club member; Yes, I'm a Wine Club member

Other products in the category Clos Poggiale:

2005 Clos Poggiale Vermentino -- 100% Vermentino (white)

Clos Poggiale Syrah/Sangiovese 2004 -- Sangiovese/Syrah red blend

Skalli Family Wines Americas Products

Skalli Family Wines Americas
Skalli Family Wines Americas ecommerce software powered by Nexternal
