Tasting Notes The Vineyard BNV Pinots have a reputation for bigness. For richness. But Winemaker Rick Hill's is unlike any other - a more nuanced approach to his wines, nuances that pay big dividends as they age. And the wine world is waking up to his undiscovered gems - Ricki raised the price of this wine almost 10% over the last two years.
Food Pairings Cheers!
More nuanced and less rich than the 2005, with pleasant traces of graphite that compliment the red fruits and warm oak essence. Moderate alcohol makes this a most pleasant and balanced wine. Buy a case and stash it in a dark and forgotten place, then start drinking a bottle every year until you think it's peaked - then throw a party! I'll give you my address for the invitation list.
Among the growing number of vineyards in the Central Coast, the most famous is arguably the Bien Nacido Vineyard from which these grapes hail. Nestled into the Eastern foothills of the Santa Maria Valley, BNV is home to grapes used in some of the area's best-known labels.
Man, I could go on and on regarding foods for this wine. Perhaps it's easier to list the poor choices - shellfish, lighter seafoods, deep and brooding dishes such as stews and braised meats, and perhaps breakfast cereal. Other than that, you'll likely find a good match with any dish of fish or fowl, bovine or porcine, veggies or tofu.
