This vineyard-select Chardonnay comes from two small vineyards - one in Napa Valley and one in Carneros. Aged in both Stainless tanks and American Oak, Winemaker Kent Rasmussen has crafted a highly affordable Napa Chardonnay.

Tasting Notes
Today's market for Chardonnay is split between lovers of big, buttery blockbusters and those who love the leaner, lighter styles that perhaps eschew oak altogether. This wine treads the middle path between the two extremes. Look for the tell-tale orange peel and citrus notes, tropical fruits (with a hint of coconut from 11 months in American Oak - it actually works well here) and some bready yeast aromas. Though not thick and buttery per se, the 100% malolactic fermentation has turned this into a soft wine rather than a mouth-watering lip smacker, making it a friendly wine with which to start your evening. Pairs well with lobster, buttery sauces, and roast chicken. But then, what doesn't work well with roast chicken?
Kent Rasmussen is the Owner/Winemaker for Elkhorn Peak. Kent was a pioneer in Carneros, being among the first to plant Burgundian varietals there in 1979 when everyone told him the area was too harsh for good grapes. His eponymous label is found on some great, affordable wines, along with his Ramsay and Esoterica labels.
