<B><u>Tasting Notes:</u>
<br>Nose:</b> An initial burst of cherry and black currant is followed by blue/black stone fruits with hints of vanilla, smoke and mushroom. A fuller-bodied pinot.
<P><B>Palate:</b> Black currant, cherry and dark stone fruit are a perfect foil for the underlying earthy mushroom and forest floor flavors. Good balance and refreshing acidity. Finish is long and silky with lots of black pepper and currant. This wine will continue to evolve over many hours in the glass. Begs for lamb chops or roast or anything with mushrooms.
<P><B>The Winery:</b>
<br>Jeff Wilkes got his start in the wine industry in 1984 with the (now) famous Bien Nacido Vineyard. Over the next 18 years he helped them attain Premier status among domestic Pinot Noir vineyards. His job required Jeff to taste the best Pinot's produced from Bien Nacido fruit as well as those from virtually all domestic and French vineyards. After two decades of visiting these wineries and tasting alongside top pinot producers, Jeff developed a keen sense of what makes a great pinot. So in 2001, Jeff set out to make world class pinots, such as this very one.
<P><B>The Vineyard:</b>
<br>Owned by the same family that brought Bien Nacido Vineyard to fame, Solomon Hills Vineyard is the central coast’s latest rising star. Planted on west-facing slopes within eyesight of the Pacific, the ocean breezes make it among the coolest of Central Coast vineyards - perfect for pinot. Currently only about 50 acres are planted to vines and the small acreage and the miserly yields of its vines (a mere 1.5 tons per acre) means only a handful of select wineries have access to these exquisite grapes. Their client list reads like a who’s who of Central Coast pinot producers. A vineyard on the rise.
