Tasting Notes The Vines The vines selected for this cuvee include some bona fide AARP candidates. One of these is believed to be California's oldest Zinfandel vineyard (the aptly named "Grand Pere Vineyard" in Amador County), which contributed fruit along with other old, head-trained vines that have seen more than 60 birthdays. Even though there is no regulation over the use of the term "old vine", these would qualify under any definition. This Zin is a blend of fruit from Mendocino, Amador, Paso Robles and Lodi – each noteworthy in their own right for their Zinfandels. This is Four-Vines entry-level wine - from de-classified barrels originally intended for their single-vineyard wines - and its is perhaps the best value in their impressive Zinfandel portfolio. Cheers!
There are a number of Zinfandel producers who craft single-vineyard wines from the best growers in the state. But how many limit their selections to old vine vineyards? Four-Vines is one such producer, and it’s the only one I know of.
