Whether you think this wine soars or simply flies in formation, you'll have to agree it is a killer wine. And it tastes like a wine that should cost much more than it does. But buy it now, as when it's gone - that's it!
Tasting Notes
Lifting this deeply colored wine to one's nose reveals aromas of a well-used leather tobacco pouch and old leather-bound First Editions. On the palate you'll find dark berries from the briar patch, a hint of anise, tar (dark licorice), and a long and pleasant finish. If more Merlots were like this one, Miles' Raymond's movie line ("If anyone orders Merlot I'm leaving! I'm NOT drinking any F***ing Merlot!!") would have fallen flat!
Cheers,
"This wine is now available by the glass at the Beverly Hills Hotel", Andrew said as he poured my first taste. He had a tough sell ahead of him despite the wine's apparent prestige. You see, most Merlots are best used as a blending grape. But not all. From time to time, and in the right hands, they can soar!
2005 was an exceptional vintage in virtually every premier growing area across the globe, and the St. Helena AVA was no exception. With fruit selected from a micro-vineyard just behind the library, this wine shows an old world elegance - moderate alcohol, tantalizing earthiness, hints of oak spice and a structure that welcomes food.
